India strike back at Chennai

Aaron Redmond and James Marshall made half-centuries but India A engineered a first innings lead over Solid Energy New Zealand A at the half-way stage of the first-class match at Chennai.

The BLACKCAPS duo made 51 each, Redmond putting on 65 for the first wicket before BJ Watling was run out for 10.

Marshall also made 51 and his 90-run partnership with captain Peter Fulton (37) moved the tourists to 174 for three after 62 overs, within striking distance of the hosts’ 248.

But from that position, India took the upper hand, with both Fulton and Marshall dismissed in the space of two overs.

Amit Mishra had already taken two wickets before fellow spinner Mohnish Parmar took over.

Parmar claimed three wickets and seamer Sudeep Tyagi help wrap up the tail as New Zealand dropped to 230 all out in 83 overs.

Trent Boult struck early in the second innings to dismiss Shikhar Dharwan and leave India’s second innings on 27 for one at stumps, a lead of 45.
