India poised for exit

India's hopes of progressing to the ICC World Cup Super Eight Series lie with Bermuda after a 69-run defeat to Sri Lanka at Port of Spain.

Rahul Dravid's side crumbled from 98 for three to 185 all out chasing Sri Lanks’s 254.

The captain led the chase with 60, supported by 48 from Virender Sehwag with 48. Muttiah Muralitharan claimed three for 41.

The 1983 winners must now rely on the Bermudans to defeat Bangladesh on Sunday to avoid elimination.

A disappointed Dravid said: "I have played in three World Cup tournaments and this is definitely my worst.

"We had our fate in our own hands and could not live up to expectations."

In Jamaica, Shivnarine Chanderpaul smashed his sixth ODI century as the West Indies completed an eight-wicket victory over fellow Group D qualifiers Ireland.

The West Indies were set a rain-adjusted target of 190 from 48 overs after an excellent bowling display had restricted Ireland to just 183 for eight.

Daren Powell, Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo claimed two wickets apiece for the hosts.
