Hussey tops rankings

Australian batsman Michael Hussey has jumped to the top of the ICC one-day international cricket rankings after another great batting performance in the recent one-day series in Malaysia.

Australia has four of the top five batsman at the head of the International Cricket Council one-day international rankings with Hussey on top for the first time, followed by Adam Gilchrist in second spot with Ricky Ponting at No.4 and Andrew Symonds at five.

West Indian batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan is at No.3 while Michael Clarke is the only other Australian in the top 20, sitting at No.11.

The ranking is justification for Hussey who has been the stand-out batsman for Australia since making his debut last season. He has 805 points and an incredible one-day batting average of 81.75. During the recent series in Malaysia he finished with an average of 152.

Three of the top bowlers in the rankings are also Australian with Brett Lee listed at two, Nathan Bracken at four and Glenn McGrath at five.

Lee's man-of-the-series performance in Malaysia where he took 12 wickets in three matches at an average of just nine propelled him back up the rankings but he is still more than 70 points behind South Africa's Shaun Pollock who holds down the top ranking.
Pollock still also heads the list for the best all-rounders ahead of Chris Gayle and Andrew Flintoff with Australia's Andrew Symonds in fourth.

Australia is still the top one-day international team, seven rankings points ahead of South Africa. India slipped two places to fifth to be behind Pakistan and New Zealand on decimal places as the teams prepare for next month's ICC Champions Trophy in India.
