How makes welcome Shield return

BLACKCAPS opener Jamie How returns to the State Central Stags for the second half of their State Shield campaign.

How returns to the Stags squad and will take the captaincy in the absence Jacob Oram.

Jarrod Englefield had led the Stags in as the BLACKCAPS duo enjoyed a winning National Bank Series against Sri Lanka.

CD are fourth in the table as they seek a third consecutive State Shield final and How comes into the squad for the trip to State Auckland Aces.

But thoughts of the end-of-season showpiece have been consigned to the backburner as one of the tournament’s pre-season favourites look to return to the top of the table.

How told nzcricket.co.nz: “We don’t really think too far ahead, we’re not thinking about finals at this stage - I know it’s a bit of a cliché but we’re really just thinking about our next game against Auckland.

“There’s a whole round of games to go, anything can happen, we’re just going to take it simple, really.”

How added he was looking forward to a return to domestic action after his first international series win.

“It’s always good to come back and play for the Stags,” he said.

“The first couple of games didn’t really go our way. Against Otago, they were doing well but the weather got in the way.

“But they’ve played well and the feeling in the camp is that it would only take a couple of things to turn it around.”
