Hearts double up

Nicola Browne’s unbeaten 81 was not enough to deny State Auckland Hearts their second win of the weekend over her State Northern Spirit team.

Browne’s impressive 65-ball innings backed up Mandie Godliman’s 56 from the top of the order as the Spirit made 236 for five batting first.

But Hearts captain Ingrid Cronin-Knight enjoyed another fine day at the crease, making 69 from 79 deliveries as the hosts hunted down their total with three overs to spare at Melville Park.

Twenty-four hours earlier, Auckland opener Ros Kember struck 82 to give her side their opening State League victory of the season over.

A sting in the Spirit tail, provided by Rhiana Vincent (25 not out) in stands of 40 with Melissa Taylor (22) and Morna Nielsen (15 not out), lifted the team to 159 for nine.

But Kember’s innings put her side on the cusp of victory, with captain Ingrid Cronin Knight taking them over the line with an unbeaten 44.
