ROUND FOUR | DAY TWO - Highlights

GLENN PHILLIPS CENTURY AT EDEN PARK

Following suit from Martin Guptill's day one ton, Glenn Phillips notched up first-class century number five for a century in every format this summer as the Auckland Aces piled on the runs at Eden Park Outer Oval.

Phillips brought up the three figures with a six off Jacob Duffy and, even though he was out just four balls later, the Volts were made to continue running around in field after Robbie O'Donnell (61 not out) and Ben Horne (67) put on 98 for the sixth wicket.

Phillips and Guptill's second-wicket stand meanwhile reached 99 while Phillips and Mark Chapman (52) hit the jackpot at 116 for the third. The net result was a first dig declared at 467 for six, then in the last session the Aces took the top four Volts wickets to compound a tough two days for the southerners who will resume day three at 59/4.

Bonus Points (in progress): Auckland Aces 4, Otago Volts 3

CENTRAL STAGS CHIP INTO ND'S LEAD

After dismissing a stubborn Northern Districts in the 10th over of the morning, captain Greg Hay and Will Young recovered from the early loss of George Worker to post twin half centuries at Napier's McLean Park. Both will have wanted more, forced to settle for 68 and 69 respectively.

Young's was the sole wicket of the middle session when he was given trapped, while Hay fell after tea at 163 for three. Having earlier claimed Worker, Scott Kuggeleijn picked up a second handy, cheap wicket in Tom Bruce and the Stags eventually went to stumps on day two four down and still 75 in arrears, needing Ben Smith to kick on with Dane Cleaver tomorrow.

Bonus Points (in progress): Central Stags 4, Northern Districts 3

CANTERBURY SET FOR BIG REPLY

Ken McClure's fourth Plunket Shield century was the highlight in Rangiora as the hosts recovered from top order wobbles.

Earlier, Jimmy Neesham had carried on from his overnight 31 to post a half century, but he lost his tailend partners before becoming the final Firebirds wicket at 316 in the morning session, Andrew Hazeldine finishing with 4-62. Neesham and Iain McPeake (2-42) then combined again with the ball to have Canterbury 98 for three in response, but McClure came to the rescue with his ton and headed in unbeaten at stumps on 110*.

Leo Carter is still with him on 62* and when they resume on the third morning Canterbury will need another 75 runs to knock off the lead with seven wickets in hand.

Bonus points (in progress): Canterbury 5, Wellington Firebirds 4
