Giles wary of Monty

Injured Ashes star Ashley Giles believes England newcomer Monty Panesar has usurped him as his country's best spinner.

Panesar starred for England in its recent drubbing of Pakistan, taking five wickets in the second innings to help England secure victory.

After watching the rookie clean up the Pakistani batting order, Giles said he felt it would be hard to regain his place in the national side.

"Monty in this last game performed superbly and he's now the man in possession," Giles told the BBC.

"I have to get my place back. That's the danger when you get injured."

However, Giles admitted his immediate concern was to return to any form of cricket.

"I can't bowl and I can't run. The actual process of rehab is going really well but it's just another four weeks before I reach that point."

The 33-year-old, a veteran of 52 Tests, has played no competitive cricket this calendar year after undergoing two hip operations.
