Fulton to captain Canterbury Wizards

Peter Fulton has been named captain of the Canterbury Wizards for the remainder of the season. Fulton replaces Kruger van Wyk who has captained the Wizards since the 2007/2008 season.

Van Wyk believes that the change in captaincy will enable him to focus on his demanding role as a keeper/batsman within the team. "It is extremely tough to captain the side and fully develop my keeping and batting to their potential. It has been a huge honour to captain the Wizards, however with my impending qualification to play for New Zealand in September, I can now devote my energy to fulfilling my dream of playing international cricket."

Bob Carter, the coach of the Canterbury Wizards paid tribute to Van Wyk saying "Kruger has always represented Canterbury with great pride and selflessness as captain. I know, however, the pressure the captaincy has placed on Kruger's own game. This change will enable him to focus on his own performance knowing that the team is in good hands with Peter Fulton."

Fulton is a vastly experienced player having previously captained Canterbury and led New Zealand A on their recent winter tour to India.
