Ford Trophy by numbers — round four

TWO

Number of unbeaten teams at the midway mark of the eight rounds pre-Finals. Auckland Aces, Wellington Firebirds, take a quick bow. The Aces remain top of the table courtesy of their first round bonus point.

THREE

Number of brilliant centuries in one game at Eden Park Outer Oval yesterday as Glenn Phillips (102 off 89), Martin Guptill (112 off 95) and George Worker (107 not out off 102) all went to boomtown. Dane Cleaver (77 not out off 50) was well on the way to joining them when rain cut short a big-hitting chase. Entertainment at its best.

Not just a pretty face #GeorgeWorker! 🤣1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣✅#FordTrophy #cricket @edenparknz

392

The Aces’ new all-time biggest List A (domestic One-Day) total after that two-ton opening stand between Guppy and Phillips (also a new record) dwarfed the 307 the Aces put on also against the Stags at Saxton Oval in Nelson 2013/14. The previous best opening stand mark had meanwhile stood since way back in 1998/99 — an unbroken 166 by Bryan Young and Blair Pocock also at the Outer Oval. Caps off to those men.

FOUR

Margin of victory (by runs) at Eden Park Outer Oval, the Stags falling agonisingly short of pulling off a DLS turn-up when the rain came — Dane Cleaver having just smashed the last two deliveries for six. What difference one more ball might have made!

99

Number of List A wickets Hamish Bennett now has after the fiery big fella’s spectacular 4-0-9-3 at the Basin helped the Firebirds win against Canterbury.

Put it there: Hamish Bennett

21

Number of List A tons for Martin Gupton. Sorry, Guptill. Also the total number of sixes at Eden Park Outer Oval yesterday (13 by the Aces, eight by the Stags). Boom!

2033

Number of List A runs by Dean Brownlie after the Northern Districts captain top-scored with 71 in Whangarei, whistling him past the 2K milestone. He got to celebrate with a 125-run victory and pat Tim Seifert on the back for a maiden fifty off 46 balls.

Tim Seifert cracked 50

306

Number of runs Sean Solia has from three games. Top run-scorer in the comp, still, and that's with a no play washout last round.

13

Number of points separating leaders the Aces and laggers the Otago Volts. But with four points per win and four rounds left, no one is out of it. The top four teams make the playoffs. You’ve only got to be in the top four. Every team will be telling themselves that.
