Flynn to be rested

Daniel Flynn will be allowed to rest before returning to the second Test at Old Trafford.

The BLACKCAPS left-hander was set to return to action on Saturday.

He retired hurt after receiving a blow to the face from a James Anderson delivery on day one.

However, he felt unwell during the latter stages of the first innings and was taken to Manchester’s Royal Alexandra Hospital for neurological tests.

These were clear, but he will now not be rushed back into action.

BLACKCAPS manager Lindsay Crocker said: “We want to make sure he’s properly right, we don’t want to risk him. We’ll be very cautious with this.

“When he does feel right, we’ll probably put him through a couple of small physical tests just to make sure he doesn’t have any physical reaction when we re-introduce him to the fray.”

Flynn did not bat again in the innings, with the BLACKCAPS out for 381.

Jeetan Patel replaced Flynn as substitute fielder.
