Fleming makes winning return

Stephen Fleming led County Championship Division Two pacesetter Nottinghamshire to an innings victory over Essex on his Trent Bridge comeback.

Notts sealed victory by an innings and 112 runs with a day left to extend their lead at the top of the table.

The 2005 champions declared on their overnight 664-7 and then reduced Essex, 347 behind, to 35-4 and 99-6.

Emerging all-rounders Ravi Bopara (50) and Ryan ten Doeschate (102) led a fight-back, but they completed victory after Paul Franks removed tail-ender Graham Napier (37).

At Taunton, Hamish Marshall's Gloucestershire were 389-4, 94 ahead of neighbours Somerset.

Marshall followed his first innings 86 with 20, removed by Kiwi-born veteran Andrew Caddick.
