Epsom Girls’ Grammar have claimed the title of Gillette Venus champions, on the back of an unbeaten run over two days in Lincoln. Their final showdown against Christchurch Girls’ (effectively a final), coming down to the last ball in what was a fantastic display of schoolgirl cricket.

MORNING ROUND:
Christchurch Girls’ High School 105/5 (B O’Connor 33, I Parry 1-11, E Hutton-Neill 1-6) beat Otago Girls’ High School 101/5 (L Easton 32, S Arnold 23, A McKissock 1-12), Bert Sutcliffe Oval
Christchurch Girls’ made it 3-from-3 on the Bert this morning, in a close match against Otago Girls’. Bowling first, CGHS were able to put together tight overs, keeping the OGHS run rate down.
Beth O’Connor (33) held the Otago innings together – Isy Parry next top scoring with 12 runs. Abby McKissock (1-10) the best of the CGHS bowlers, while another three picked up a wicket each.
Lucy Easton (32) and Sasha Arnold (23) set up the chase for the Cantabrians, the middle-order holding their nerve to secure a 5-wicket win with just 7 balls remaining.

Epsom Girls’ Grammar 119/4 (C McGuire 23, E Buchanan 23, S Bajaj 4-14, C McGuire 2-12) beat Wellington Girls’ College 89/10 (K Chandler 37, L Robinson 17, E Hay 1-14, K Chandler 1-18), Lincoln No.3
Epsom Grammar also continued their unbeaten run, securing a 30-run victory over Wellington Girls’.
EGGS managed to post a handy 119 runs thanks to contributions from Elizabeth Buchanan (23), Christelle McGuire (23) and Anika Tauwhare (22). WGC bowled economically, with the four wickets spread across their bowling attack.
WGC got their chase off to a fantastic start thanks to Kate Chandler (32), however, the wickets kept falling at the other end. Simi Bajaj (4-14) starred for EGGS with four big wickets, helping EGGS to a comfortable victory.

New Plymouth Girls’ High School 86/5 (M Kinnell 24, A Scott 17, C Marshall 3-13, A Scott 2-14) beat Waikato Diosecan 85/9 (L Haldey 17, K Peddie 3-18, D Dodd 1-6), Lincoln Green
New Plymouth Girls’ managed to pick up their first tournament win this morning, on the back of some fine bowling in the first innings.
Led by Caitlin Marshall (3-13) and Anika Scott (2-14), and helped by three run-outs, NPGHS were able to bowl Waikato out for just 85 runs. Lucy Hadley (17) the only WDS batter to hit double figures.
Opener Madeleine Kinnell (24) got the NPGHS innings off to a positive start, backed up by Cara Hollard (17) and Anika Scott (17). Kate Peddie (3-18) fought hard for WDS, but the total proved to low – NPGHS winning in the 16th over.

AFTERNOON ROUND:
Epsom Girls’ Grammar 111/8 (A Tauwhare 43, H Lightbourne 26, S Bajaj 2-20, A Tauwhare 1-10) beat Christchurch Girls’ High School 108/8 (S Arnold 33, L Easton 21, A McKissock 2-23, K Pringle 2-19), Lincoln Green
Unbeaten teams Epsom Grammar and Christchurch Girls’ met on the Lincoln Green, in what was effectively the final of the 2022 Gillette Venus Cup.
Batting first, Epsom posted a respectable 119 runs – largely thanks to a vital knock from Anika Tauwhare (43) and a solid contribution from No.3 batter Holly Lightbourne (26).
CGHS bowled well throughout the innings, led by Abby McKissock (2-23) and Kayla Pringle (2-19) – both taking an important two wickets each. They were also very sharp in the field, effecting three run outs.
CGHS started well with the bat thanks to opener (and stand in captain) Estella Wallace (13) and Sasha Arnold (33), who put the pressure back on the EGGS bowlers. Lucy Easton also contributing a well made 21 runs to take the game deep for her team.
The EGGS’ bowlers held their nerve, however, taking important wickets at the right time, and staying sharp in the field. By the final over, CGHS needed 9 runs – but EGGS spin-bowler Tauwhare held her nerve, going for just 5 runs, and securing the Gillette Venus Cup for Epsom Grammar in a thriller of a game.

Otago Girls’ High School 89/8 (H Wilson 27, B O’Connor 24, B O’Connor 3-15, G Barnes 2-14) beat Waikato Diocesan 88/9 (C Hardie 17, C Hardie 4-3, K Peddie 2-31), Lincoln No.3
Otago Girls’ managed to secure third place with a nail-biting victory over Waikato Diocesan on Lincoln No.3.Bowling first, Otago Girls’ were put on the back foot thanks to a solid start from WDS’ top order.
Seam bowler Beth O’Connor (3-15) managing to make the breakthrough, taking three key wickets at the top of the innings. Kate Ballantyne (2-17) and Grace Barnes (2-14) also taking two important wickets each.
Hannah Wilson (27) and O’Connor (24) played important knocks for their side, seeing OGHS to a good position before being dismissed. WDS would not give in, taking regular wickets throughout the innings – led by an amazing four-wicket bag (4-3) from Catherine Hardie.
OGHS held their nerve, claiming victory in the 18th over, and securing third place.

New Plymouth Girls’ High School 109/3 (C Marshall 36*, C Stent 20, C Butler 3-12) beat Wellington Girls’ College 108/7 (K Chandler 55, L Robinson 28, L Duncan 1-4), Bert Sutcliffe Oval
New Plymouth Girls’ and Wellington Girls’ also enjoyed a tightly contested final match of tournament.
WGC got off to a fantastic start – openers Kate Chandler (55) and Lucy Robinson (28) putting on 91 runs before loss of the first wicket. The rest of the WCG batting unit struggled to keep up the momentum – New Plymouth bowlers Charlotte Butler (3-12) and Anika Scott (2-7) both bowling tight spells.
A team effort with the bat saw NPGHS home in the 19th over – Caitlin Marshall (36*), Charlotte Stent (20) and Grace Foreman (18*) leading the way for the northerners.
