England secures victory

England has taken an unbeatable 2-0 series lead over Pakistan after securing victory in the third Test at Headingley by 167 runs.

Needing 323 runs for victory on the final day, Pakistan stumbled in the morning session to be reeling on 84-5 at lunch.

England spin whiz Monty Panesar (3-39) turned on a scintillating bowling performance in the afternoon session to snare danger-man Younis Khan (41) to swing the match in favour of the hosts.

England speedster Sajid Mahmood also chose an opportune moment to turn in his best bowling performance at Test level with 4-22 as Pakistan crumbled to be all out for 155.

The odds were always stacked against the tourists, who would have had to break a national record for a run chase to win the match and go into the final Test at The Oval all square.

However, earlier in the morning session Younis and Mohammad Yousuf, fresh from their 363-run partnership in the first innings, had Pakistan heading comfortably for the big target on 68-2.

But the turning point came just before the lunch interval when Younis opted to take on the throw of Paul Collingwood, arguably England's best fielder, the decision to run resulting in the costly dismissal of Yousuf.

As the pair raced away for a dubious single, the gully fielder's throw proved accurate and resulted in the costly dismissal of Yousuf.

Pakistan struggled from then on to get on top and England's bowlers, sensing victory, closed in on the visiting tail after lunch.

The win is England's first home Test series victory over Pakistan since 1982 and its first series win since last summer's Ashes.
