England Lions to tour New Zealand

The England Lions (England A) cricket team will tour New Zealand in February and March next year as part of a reciprocal agreement that will see New Zealand A touring England in 2010.

Justin Vaughan, CEO New Zealand Cricket, said he was thrilled with the reciprocal agreement, “This level of cricket is an important mechanism for developing depth in our international game. The recent tour to India by the Solid Energy A team has again proven that New Zealand teams can compete successfully in the international arena.

The England A tour includes two games against New Zealand Emerging Players as well as two four-day tests, two one-day games and one Twenty20 match against New Zealand A.

“We believe it is extremely important for both the Emerging Players and New Zealand A to have strong international programmes and we shall ensure there are high quality playing opportunities for these teams in future years. The reciprocal nature of this agreement means our A team will tour England in 2010 which is fantastic.”

“The England Lions squad will comprise a mixture of England’s best players of the future together with those currently on the fringes of the senior team, so will provide a stern challenge later this summer,” he said.
