Ellis and Satterthwaite take top Canterbury Cricket awards

All rounders Andrew Ellis and Amy Satterthwaite took out the Harcourt’s Vision Player of the Year awards at last nights Canterbury Cricket awards dinner.

Ellis, who underwent surgery on a stress fracture in his back prior to the season, has enjoyed an outstanding season with both the bat and ball. He took 39 wickets during the 2010/11 season across the three competitions with best figures of 6-54 against Central Districts. With the bat Ellis accumulated 616 runs including his maiden first class century.

“It is great to win the award but it pales in comparison to winning the Plunket Shield. To achieve that success after the adversity of the earthquake was a pretty special effort from everyone” said Ellis during last night’s presentation. He ended the season third in the national MVP rankings just 44 points behind overall winner and Wizards team mate Rob Nicol.

Canterbury Magicians captain Amy Satterthwaite took out the top prize for the third consecutive season. Satterthwaite lead the Magicians to victory in both the Action Cricket Cup and Action Twenty20 competition helping solidify Canterbury’s dominance in the domestic women’s competition. Finishing third in the national MVP rankings, the highest of the Canterbury women’s contingent, Satterthwaite was pleased with the solid season she and the Magicians had put in.

“The way the team performed so consistently allowed me to express myself and play my kind of cricket which has paid off. It was a pretty special season to do the clean sweep and have 4 more Magicians players join the White Ferns ranks” said Satterthwaite.

The full list of top awards is as follows:
