Day 1 and 2: National U17 tournament

Outstanding individual bowling figures highlight round one of U17 tournament

Northern Districts and Wellington notched up solid wins with Canterbury coming out on top in a close encounter.

Joe Carter stuck 105 for Norther Districts as they set Auckland a target of 330.  Bowler Chanse Persham then ripped through the Auckland line up, taking five for 17, to have them all out for 215, handing Northern a comfortable 115 run win.

Otago had no answer top the deadly bowling of Theo van Woekrom who sneered seven for 60, reducing them to 259 all out in pursuit of Canterbury’s 276 for eight declared.  An 80 run partnership between top run scorers Ben Ward (67) and Ananthan Yugaraja (50) set up the total for Canterbury.

A well crafted 80 from Ben Rammell was the highlight of the Wellington innings as they made 280 in their first innings.  Central Districts bowler Christopher Pope did his best to restrict the total, taking six for 34 in a losing effort.  Charlie McLean ensured it was a comfortable win, taking five for 37 to have Central Districts fall 78 runs short of their target.
