Coach tips Taylor for top

Emerging BLACKCAPS batsman Ross Taylor earned high praise from coach John Bracewell.

Taylor is yet to make his test debut for the side but has contributed more than 700 runs in 22 ODI innings since his debut against the West Indies in March 2006.

The 23-year-old right-hander’s ICC World Cup was hampered by a hamstring injury but he still returned one half-century during the campaign.

And Bracewell has seen enough to name the State Central Stags player as one of the key plusses from this season.

“I think the development and maturity of Ross Taylor will give us a dynamic to take us further forward,” he said.

“This tournament saw his development, and we had the luxury of getting him in that position.

“I think somebody like that; who I think has the athleticism, the hand-eye co-ordination, the desire and the power to take our game a step forward.

“He has potential brilliance in him, and he learned a lot in this tournament and that will be of great value to him in the future.”
