Clark to miss Champions Trophy

Australian Stuart Clark will miss next month's ICC Champions Trophy after suffering a thigh injury while playing club cricket.

The tear in the left quadriceps will sideline the New South Wales speedster for between four and six weeks, while a replacement in the touring squad has yet to be named.

Australian team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said Clark would not be rushed back from the injury, despite the Ashes being less than eight weeks away.

"The nature of the injury means it would be unlikely that Stuart would be able take any part in the ICC Champions Trophy," Kountouris said.

"Therefore, the decision was made for him to stay in Australia and undergo treatment to maximise his chances of a full recovery before the 3 mobile Ashes series."

"His progress to date and results of the scan suggest he will take approximately four to six weeks to recover."

Clark was disappointed to miss out but was hopeful of recovering in time for the much-anticipated Ashes series beginning in Australia in November.

"It is very disappointing to get an injury like this right on the eve of such an important tour; however, all I can do is look forward and commit myself to a full rehabilitation," Clark said.

"I am confident that I will be back playing as soon as is possible and will be doing everything in my power to ensure that I’m fully fit ahead of the 3 mobile Ashes series."
