Central Look to Extend Their Championship Lead

Central Stags captain Matthew Sinclair wasn’t able to add to his overnight score of 164 in the State Championship match against the Wellington Firebirds at the Basin Reserve.

Fellow centurion, Bevin Griggs, could only manage five more runs before being dismissed on 143.

The Central tail put on further 58, finally being all out for a massive 523 and firmly in control.

It was 18 year old Harry Boam who cleaned up at the end returning figures of three for 56 off 23 for Central, with opening bowlers Andrew Lamb and Graham Napier picking up two each.

Wellington made steady enough progress in reply with three of their batsman reaching half centuries but no one going on.

In form opener Matthew Bell was looking the most likely to provide the anchor role but was caught out on 75 after facing 224 deliveries.

Neal Parlane made 54 in an innings full of shots, hitting the fence nine times and clearing it once.

After Bell departed it was Grant Elliot who looked to provide stability, but he wasn’t able to give Wellington the lengthy innings they require, being dismissed for 63 off 165 balls.

A wicket off the final ball of the day left Wellington five down and 262 runs behind, as Central look to be in a strong position to extend their lead at the top of the State Championship leader board.
