Captain’s knock defeats Ferns

A captain’s knock by Charlotte Edwards gave England a six-wicket win at Lincoln’s Bert Sutcliffe Oval and a 3-1 series victory over the White Ferns.

Edwards struck an unbeaten 83 to chase down the White Ferns’ 241 by the fourth ball of the 48th over.

The skipper completed a fine double with her half-century, having taken two for 38 from her seven overs.

Isa Guha and Nicola Shaw also claimed two White Ferns wickets.

Aimee Mason was also on form with both bat and ball.

The all-rounder contributed 67 to the New Zealanders’ innings from the top of the order, a total achieved at a cost of nine wickets having been invited to bat by the visiting skipper.

She was the most prolific of the home attack with three for 42, but her team could not contain the English run chase.
