Buchanan may go bush

Australia's cricketers may head for a three-day camp in the Queensland bush as part of their preparations for the Champions Trophy and the Ashes.

The proposal, a brainchild of the innovative John Buchanan, is expected to be approved by Cricket Australia on Friday.

An unnamed Cricket Australia director told The Age the aim of the camp was to sharpen up the players both physically and mentally.

"Buchanan wants to keep it all a bit close to his chest because he wants it all to be a bit of a surprise for them and a challenge when it happens," the source said.

Buchanan, who will step down after next year's World Cup in the Caribbean, has urged his players to think outside the square during his tenure with trips to the battlefields of France and Turkey, writing poetry and the hiring of a baseball coach to improve fielding some of the innovations he has initiated
