BLACKCAPS eye 100% record

BLACKCAPS coach John Bracewell wants his side to take no prisoners as they seek a Group C clean sweep against Canada in St Lucia overnight (NZ time).

The team can complete a 100% record with a third successive win at the Beausejour Stadium.

He said: “We want to be uncompromising in our approach. We want to demonstrate a fearlessness and confidence, but we don’t just want to have a slog fest.”

Daryl Tuffey and Peter Fulton are likely to be included after missing both of the opening games of the competition.

Bracewell added: We’re trying to work with a squad system, given our history with injuries, and that we’ve picked up another one in Ross Taylor.

“We’ve got a guy in Pete Fulton who can come in, so there changes by attrition anyway, but it will be good to give Daryl Tuffey his first run at this tournament.”

Taylor will be rested ahead of the Kiwis’ opening Super Eight game, against the hosts in Antigua in a week’s time.

Mark Gillespie continues to recover from his shoulder injury and may not be risked.

Canada, fourth in the group, are experienced at the top level after their 2003 World Cup campaign.

Familiar faces in the Canada side include State Central Stags Geoff Barnett and former Otago, Wellington and Auckland batsman Ian Billcliff.

The North American qualifiers are again captained by 2003 World Cup star John Davidson, and their attack includes veteran former West Indies pace man Anderson Cummins.

BLACKCAPS (from): Stephen Fleming (captain), Shane Bond, James Franklin, Peter Fulton, Michael Mason, Brendon McCullum, Craig McMillan, Jacob Oram, Jeetan Patel, Scott Styris, Daryl Tuffey, Daniel Vettori, Lou Vincent.

Canada: Ashish Bagai, Geoff Barnett, Ian Billcliff, Desmond Chumney, Austin Codrington, George Codrington, Anderson Cummins, John Davison (captain), Sunil Dhaniram, Asif Mulla, Henry Osinde, Qaiser Ali, Abdool Samad, Kevin Sandher, Umar Bhatti.
