BLACKCAPS bat first in tour match

BLACKCAPS captain Daniel Vettori won the toss and chose to bat first in their four-day cricket tour match against New South Wales at the Sydney Cricket Ground today.

The BLACKCAPS omitted allrounder Grant Elliott and paceman Mark Gillespie from their tour squad of 13, in their only warmup match before next Thursday's first test against Australia in Brisbane.

For reigning Sheffield Shield champions New South Wales, 17-year-old paceman Josh Hazlewood was selected for his first-class debut.

The weather was fine and warm with a start due on time at 1pm (NZT).
