BLACKCAPS attack strikes back

The BLACKCAPS broke through Bangladesh’s stubborn top order before four more wickets on third morning of the first National Bank Test at Dunedin’s University Oval swung the match back in the hosts’ control.

Going into the day’s play, Daniel Vettori’s side still held the ascendancy despite a determined record stand by visiting openers Tamim Iqbal and Zunaed Siddique.

And at lunch, the home side protected their lead in the opening session of the day, holding a 14-run advantage as their seamers cut through the Tigers’ top order.

Iain O’Brien struck twice just before the break to leave Bangladesh wobbling.

Tamim and Zunaed added 19 to their overnight score before the former fell, for 84, bowled by Kyle Mills.

Chris Martin took Zunaed for 74, Stephen Fleming again proving his slip skills.

Jacob Oram accounted for veteran Habibul Bashar, caught by Matthew Sinclair for 11.

O'Brien then had Mohammad Ashraful caught at point by Craig Cumming for 23, before Aftab Ahmed was caught at a close in mid-off by Matthew Bell for a duck – making a pair.

Having slipped from 167 without loss to 205 for five, the tourists still need to put runs on the board to avoid an innings defeat.
