Day two of the competition saw some exciting matches in the morning round before the weather packed meaning all afternoon matches were abandoned.

Game One (Morning):
St Hilda’s Collegiate v Palmerston North Girls’ High School
Palmerston North Girls’ High School got off to the ideal start, with recently named Central Districts player Hannah Rowe picking up two wickets in the first over of the match.
Some outstanding fielding and tight bowling meant St Hilda’s struggled to gather momentum. Palmerston North continued to pick up regular wickets and eventually dismissed St Hilda’s for 41.
It was clear from the outset that it wouldn’t be enough for St Hilda’s to defend. Palmerston North Girls were impressive, as they came out and batted very positively and picked up the required runs in the seventh over.

Wanganui Collegiate v St Mary’s College
St Mary’s won the toss and elected to field and straight away they had success, with Rosemary Cockle picking up a wicket maiden in the first over of the innings. Georgie Blackwood continued her form from yesterday, top scoring with 32. She was well supported by Anna McIlaith and Charlotte Haggas, who both struck 16 to see their team through to 96 for 9. Cockle finished with incredible figures of three for five off her four overs.
In reply. Wanganui Collegiate ripped through the top order, leaving St Mary’s reeling at 14 for five. Silia Setefano and Abbey L’Estrange started to build a partnership, as they put on 20 runs for the fifth wicket. However, it didn’t last and Wanganui Collegiate finally dismissed St Mary’s for 45 runs.

Hillcrest High School v Christchurch Girls’ High School
Christchurch Girls’ High School won the toss and decided to bowl. They dismissed the opening batters early and had Hillcrest struggling at 23 for five. Northern Districts batsmen Heidi Arndt and Felicity Leydon-Davis came to the crease and steered their team away from danger with a 60 run partnership. Hillcrest finished the innings with 88 on the score board.
In reply, Christchurch Girls High School made a brilliant start., Meg Lay and Emma Heartland put on 36 for the first wicket before Leydon-Davis made the break-through with Lay edging one through to the wicket keeper.
Hillcrest picked up another quick wicket, but Christchurch Girls never recovered comfortably. Some solid batting and good running between the wickets saw them chase down the total with six wickets in hand.

St Kentigern College v Westlake Girls’ High School
St Kentigern College opted to batted first and opener Francesca Wilkinson was determined to propel her team to a high total. She had good support from her team mates and with an unbeaten score of 67 carried her team through to a total of 128 for four. Alex Lowrie was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets.
In reply, Westlake struggled to keep up with the required run rate and weren’t helped by a regular loss of wickets. Kathryn Simpson and Vanessa Simpson showed fight towards the end, as they put on a 20 run partnership, but St Kentigerns total was beyond reach and they were dismissed for 53.
