Bevan eyes return

Former Australian one-day specialist Michael Bevan believes he is still a chance of playing in next year's World Cup.

Bevan played in both of Australia's World Cup wins in 1999 and 2003, but was sensationally dropped from the side in 2004 despite a batting average of 53.58.

The 36-year-old answered his critics with two superb seasons for Tasmania with the bat, while he also assumed the role of assistant coach.

But his chances of a recall seem remote, not included in either of the squads for the DLF Cup in Malaysia or the Champions Trophy in India next month.

Bevan admitted his chances were slim, but also said he would have retired from the Tigers if not for the World Cup.

"I understand that it's a real outside chance and it probably depends on how Australia performs and who's playing well down the middle order," he told ABC Sport.

"So it's a very outside chance but something I want to be there for just in case."
