Bell sparks England victory

Ian Bell has struck an unbeaten 86 to guide England to an eight-wicket win over Pakistan in the fourth one-day international at Trent Bridge.

With solid support from skipper Andrew Strauss (78) and Kevin Pietersen (41 not out), Bell hit 10 fours - including three in succession from one Abdul Razzaq over - as England reached 2-237 in reply to Pakistan's total of 235.

Bell and Strauss put on 110 for the second wicket, before the former combined with Pietersen for an unbroken stand of 89.

The win keeps the five-match series alive; Pakistan leads 2-1 with one game still to play.

Earlier, Pakistan opener Razzaq smashed 75 not out from just 72 balls to see his side from a precarious 8-165 to 8-235.

Razzaq launched a furious assault on the England bowlers, hitting five sixes and two fours in the last 12 balls of the innings.

English debutant Michael Yardy was the pick of the bowlers, the spinner taking 3-24 from his 10 overs.

He and off-spinner Jamie Dalrymple were chiefly responsible for a middle-order collapse that saw Pakistan lose three wickets for two runs.

England was without Marcus Trescothick, who was dropped for the first time in his international career after declaring himself unavailable for next month's Champions Trophy tournament in India.

He was replaced by left-hander Ed Joyce, who scored 13 runs before edging a catch to wicket keeper Kamran Akmal off the bowling of Mohammad Asif.
