Australia extracted revenge for their Tri-Series defeat to England with a seven-wicket ICC World Cup Super Eight Series win in Antigua.
Kevin Pietersen made his team's first World Cup hundred as they made 247, with an supporting innings of 77 by Ian Bell.
But Ricky Ponting struck 86 and Michael Clarke 50 as the world champions won with 16 balls remaining.
Andrew Symonds rounded off the contest with a run-a-ball 26.
Ponting said: "It was a pretty tight game right the way through, Kevin Pietersen and Bell played beautifully and I thought the difference in the game today was the intensity when things weren't going well for us.
"Our fielding was great right the way through and our bowlers did a terrific job."
