U14 Girls Development Camp

Maiden Auckland U14 Girls Development Camp

Maiden Auckland U14 girls camps a success

A new initiative by Auckland Cricket, saw 26 girls attend a development camp over three days, has been a resounding success. This is the first time a camp for this age group has been run by Auckland Cricket and was broken up in to activities aimed at developing skills and game scenarios in the morning with 6-a-side T10 games in the afternoon. The T10 game had modifications to reinforce the skills they had learnt in the morning. The activities and game scenarios were developed by Dr Ian Renshaw, Queensland University of Technology who is an expert in skill acquisition and constraints-based learning.

An exciting feature of the camp saw NZC in partnership with Auckland Cricket and AUT measure each girl’s maturation levels, enabling teams to be bio-banded based on their biological age. There is very little research into the maturation of girls in sport internationally so the data gathered from this camp will be invaluable and could help shape future camps and competition structures for girls.

AUT will be gathering extensive qualitative feedback by conducting interviews with players and coaches.
