Wellington lost their Twenty20 match to Auckland by three wickets despite a superb century by opener Renee Moffitt.  The hard hitting opener lashed 101 off 77 balls and hit 16 boundaries before being dismissed in the final over.  Wellington made it through to a decent 148 for four on the back of Moffitt’s ton.  Auckland’s Regina Lili’i returned respectable figures of two for 25 off her ten overs.

Sarah Carnachan got the Auckland reply off to solid start with 40 at the top of the innings while middle order batsmen Lauren Down made a useful 30 off just 22.  There wasn’t a standout performer down the order but everyone contributed to get Auckland home with seven balls to spare.  For Wellington Tash Narasy was the best on display, taking two for 20 in a losing effort.

Canterbury v Northern Districts

A tight bowling effort by Northern Districts kept Canterbury to 101 and they chased down the target with 1.2 overs to spare.  Canterbury got off to a cracking start with opener Lisa Moore and first drop Gina Hart putting on 58 for the second wicket but the downfall of Hart for 32 off 33 sparked a collapse that saw them crumble to 72 for six.  Northern’s Emily Bailey was the chief destroyer taking three for 24 with six of the Canterbury’s batsmen falling for ducks.

The Northern run chase was set up by a decent middle order effort by Rhiana Vincent (25*) and Caitlin Dodunski (23) with a few other batsmen chipping in.  Canterbury new ball bowler Hannah Malloch took impressive figures of two for 17 off her four overs.

Central Districts v Otago
Lincoln Green

A massive 129 run partnership between Kelly Crowley and Lisa Grant helped Otago chase down Central District’s total of 148.  Opener Crowley blasted 74 off just 52 deliveries while Grant was circumspect in comparison with 51 not out off 50.  The pair made the run chase look easy as they passed Central’s total with two overs to spare.

Earlier, Central’s stand out performer of the tournament Sony Thompson once again delivered with 37 off 30 balls but was out done by Michelle Frey who smacked 38 off 29.  The pair helped Central to a useful total and it would have been more had a Tessa Hopkinson five wicket haul not held them back.  Hopkinson got rid of Jessie Bennett early before coming back for a second spell to mop rip through the rest of the line up to finish with outstanding figures of five for 29.
