Can you imagine running in and bowling your fastest ball at Auckland’s top cricketers? How about taking the catch that will win the game? Or face some of the best bowlers? Well now you don’t have to imagine.
This Sunday is your chance to get in there and spend some time with the Auckland Aces and Hearts at the Auckland Cricket open day.
The open day is a great chance for you to meet the Aces at their new home ground – Colin Maiden Park. The day kicks off at 1pm and all your favourite Auckland Players will be there.
Because of the current redevelopment at Eden Park the Outer Oval is being used as a construction site over the next two cricket seasons, and therefore a new home for the Aces was required. After a long and thorough selection process Colin Maiden Park was chosen as Auckland's new home ground.
It's a natural venue to host the Aces with an array of facilities as well as hosting the Auckland University Rugby Club and Auckland University Sports Science Centre. It has an extensive club room area and changing room facilities that have been brought up to first class standard. The complex boasts five pitches in total (three grass and two artificial) and new outdoor nets built specifically for the Aces. Not only is Colin Maiden Park the home of Auckland Cricket, it is also the home ground for the Auckland University Club.
At the Auckland Cricket open day, not only will you get the chance to get the autograph of your favourite player, you will also get to participate in a number of activities. Two nets will be set up so you can either face a ball from, or bowl to, your favourite Auckland player, a high catch machine will be in use so you can show off your catching skills and for the batsmen, a ball pitcher will be controlled by one of the Auckland players.
If you’ve got a good arm then have a go to see how far you can throw, then play along side the Aces and Hearts in a fun game of cricket.
If you are lucky you might even spot a BLACKCAP or two.
