Anderson double restricts BLACKCAPS

A James Anderson double left the BLACKCAPS with things to ponder over lunch on day two of the second National Bank Test in Wellington.

The BLACKCAPS took the final five English wickets for 51 runs at the Basin Reserve as the tourists were all out for 342.

But the recalled pace bowler struck twice to reduce the hosts’ reply to 11 for two.

Tim Ambrose completed his maiden Test century before the collapse.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Ambrose converted his overnight 97 not out to a maiden Test century, but he was dismissed shortly after reaching the landmark.

Kyle Mills ended the Australian-born right hander’s innings at 102, and broke his sixth-wicket partnership of 164 with Paul Collingwood.

Collingwood progressed to his 50, but also fell as the English tail collapsed, falling from 300 for five to 342 all out.

Mark Gillespie was the most prolific of the BLACKCAPS bowlers with four for 79, with Jacob Oram also one of the stand-outs with three for 46.

Mills ended the innings with two for 86 and Chris Martin one for 80 as the hosts’ seam attack carried the bulk of the workload.

But Anderson struck twice before the end of the morning to remove both home openers.

The Lancashire and Auckland Aces right-armer bowled Matthew Bell in the second over, the Wellington Firebirds batsman failing to score on his home ground.

Anderson then accounted for Jamie How, for seven, caught in the slips by Andrew Strauss.
