Akhtar warns England

Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar sent out a warning to England's batsmen saying his bowling is only going to get better during the one-day series.

Akhtar marked his return to international cricket from surgery by taking 3-45 in the opening game in Cardiff.

"It was always going to be a test, but it was exactly what I needed," he told bigstarcricket.com.

"I know I can get better and faster. I hope to stay fit and by the Champions Trophy [next month] I should be at my peak."

Akhtar said his rhythm is vital and he felt good in Cardiff.

"The fact my speeds were getting up towards the middle-90s on some deliveries shows that I haven't lost the ability to bowl fast while I've been out.

"As any fast bowler knows, the better your rhythm, the quicker you bowl."

Akhtar said he was pleased Pakistan bowled first because it allowed him to get his 10 overs in before it rained.

"I think there was enough evidence of the old Shoaib Akhtar but there is still a long way to go.

"After more than six months out of international cricket, it will take a while for the body to adjust to the pressures again, but it was a good start."

Akhtar said the only thing preventing Pakistan from winning the series is complacency.

"If we all stay focused and play to our ability we will take some beating as we have a lethal combination.

"I don't mean any disrespect to England saying that as they have some dangerous players also, but I just think we have the advantage with experience and ability," he said.
