Akhtar sends out warning

Pakistani express bowler Shoaib Akhtar has England's faltering batting line-up clearly in his sights.

He is keen to show the Pakistan management that he is fit for the third Test in 10 days time.

After rehabilitation following a knee operation and a lengthy ankle problem, he says he wants to play his first Test since February.

"The ankle is good, it's recovering. I've bowled around three or four times with the full run-up and that's been no problem," he told Sporting Life.com.>

"Everything I do is calculated and we're not taking any chances.

"We have a long, tough year ahead of us, so we've been very sensible," he said.

Akhtar has been training with Warwickshire under an arrangement organised by Pakistan's coach and former Warwickshire coach Bob Woolmer.

He has been working there for a week and also playing some league cricket.

"If it was up to me then I could play tomorrow for Pakistan," he said.

"I love playing for my country and I love being out there and it's very frustrating watching my team play on television.

"I suppose a more realistic assessment of my return was and is to get some match practice under my belt and that's what we're going to try to do.

"I just want to be confident about myself and then the management and myself can sit down and talk about things when I feel confident about running in.

"If I feel right and I've got some match practice and some rhythm and as soon as I get it all together I could jump in. My fingers are crossed to play at Headinley," he said.

Then he sent out his warning to the English batsmen saying he has worked hard for this series.

"I think I will be a yard quicker when I do come back.

"I hope to bowl a yard quicker in this series and if I get some good match practice I'll be right up there. I'm not going to get slower, trust me!" he said.
