One-Day Competition
Round Two
Central Hinds 190 all out (Melissa Hansen 38, Hannah Rowe 32; Amy Satterthwaite 2-17, Frances Mackay 2-22, Gabby Sullivan 2-30) tied with Canterbury Magicians 190-9 (Amy Satterthwaite 78*, Frances Mackay 29; Rosemary Mair 3-36) at Cornwall Park, Hastings
A nail-biting chase ended in a rare tied one-dayer as the Canterbury Magicians took on the Central Hinds for the second time in two days at Hastings' Cornwall Park.
The game started very well for the Magicians, who dismissed their hosts for 190 in exactly 50 overs, the wickets shared, and none of the Hinds really having raced away on them, despite solid starts.
Opener Melissa Hansen topped the scorecard with 38, Michelle Mitchell (27) and captain Karen Broadmore (27) chiming in for the top order after skipper Broadmore had opted to bat first.
But, from a platform of 107/4, life turned chaotic for the remainder of the order until young WHITE FERN Hannah Rowe stepped in at eight to deliver an important 32 off 52 balls at the death, before she was caught and bowled by her fellow WHITE FERNS pace ace Lea Tahuhu.
Teammate one week, adversaries the next: Satterthwaite and Rowe
Skipper and first drop Satterthwaite coolly dominated the chase with an unbeaten on 78 off 126 balls, but was left frustrated by the tight final over, bowled by 18-year-old Rowe.
Satterthwaite had grabbed a single from the third ball of that fateful set, and then another that put tailender Sullivan on strike for the last delivery, needing three off it.
But Sullivan and Satterthwaite could only scramble an anxious two, and the scorecards were left all square.
Rosemary Mair, claiming 3-36, finished the best haul, but it was Rowe who took the final bow.
