South Island 139-8 in 20 overs (Neil Broom 34, Andy Ellis 26, Ronnie Hira 30-3, Dan Vettori 14-2) beat North Island 124-8 (James Franklin 45, Colin Munro 24, Matt Henry 25-2, James McMillan 29-2) by 15 runs.
The South Island took out the inaugural Island of Origin match at Seddon Park in Hamilton by 15 runs. Neil Broom top-scored for the South Island with 34 as the batsmen struggled to get some tight bowling away. Adam Milne gave the Southern men the hurry up and finished with figures of 22-2 from his four overs, while Ronnie Hira clamped down on the end of the innings with 30-3.
In reply, the North Island batsmen couldn't get the chase going, with James Franklin the only player to stick around for any real length of time, scoring 45. Matt Henry bowled well for 25-2, while James McMillan took 29-2, as the North Island struggled to 124-8 in their twenty overs, giving the win to the South by 15 runs.
