Amy Satterthwaite had enjoyed the fairytale finish to her T20 career at Hagley Oval.

Now the veteran of more than 300 List A matches scored an unbeaten century in the last over of her last one-day innings at her home ground (with the Magicians' remaining fixtures all away), renamed Satterthwaite Oval for the weekend in her honour, in another memorable day for the soon to be retired left-hand legend.

Not only that, but she went clear of Frankie McKay as her team's all-time top run-scorer (they had begun the day locked on 4,837 runs, with McKay injured and away commentating the BLACKCAPS Test, and, Satterthwaite collected her 10,000th List A run in the process.

But what changed was the result.

The Magicians had again won the toss and batted against the Central Hinds who were in a must-win situation to stay alive in the competition, while the Magicians sat in the top two.

Satterthwaite's knock had been vital to the Magicians who lost their top three early - including yesterday's heroine, Kate Anderson, caught for a golden duck, a sobering moment's cricket after her ballistic, unbeaten 141* the previous day.

It was a second wicket for Melissa Hansen (2-35) and the Hinds would continue chipping away collectively around the immutable Satterthwaite at four.

The Magicians legend got the most support from Nat Cox who again chimed in with handy runs at a key moment this season, contributing 38 to their 103-run stand for the fourth wicket.

Ocean Bartlett took her second catch to end it, off leggie Georgia Atkinson; and would be in the action again with two runouts at the death as the rest of the Magicians continued to fall away.

Satterthwaite reached her three figures when just three balls had remained, posting it in style with a boundary off Hansen before indulging in a joyous celebration to the enthrall of her teammates.

Running off with 103 not out off 115 balls by her name, after a hometown career that began in this competition on 27 December 2003 at Redwood Park, Christchurch, the Magicians would need to defend 242 for eight for the complete fairytale day.

MBUTCHER

The Hinds suffered some early wobbles themselves with Georgia Atkinson caught off the third ball she had faced, and the big wicket of Hinds captain Nat Dodd (18) falling to Gabby Sullivan at 51/2.

MBUTCHER

After some nervy moments, Jess Watkin had meanwhile started finding the boundary with ease, and back up her bittersweet 96 from the previous afternoon with another half century, reaching 57 off just 61 balls before young Abigail Hotton had a big breakthough on debut in the 20th.

The required run rate, under five, was not insurmountable for the Hinds, but spinners Satterthwaite and Sarah Asmussen kept things tight through the middle to slowly build pressure.

Asmussen struck in the 27th, Satterthwaite in the 34th to stop dangerous striker Mikaela Greig on 56, and the Hinds were 155/5.

NZU19 youngster Emma McLeod was a key wicket very next over for Sullivan, McLeod having scored a fifty on debut the previous day.

The Hinds' generally weakish lower order was exposed, and Sullivan (3-40) took care of Rosemary Mair off her next: 166/7, and more than 70 runs still needed.

At the 40-over mark, allrounders Ashtuti Kumar and Ocean Bartlett faced a run-a-ball chase, if they could just stay there and settle the dust down.

It was an excellent contest, the pendulum swinging back and forth between the two sides, with every ball counting.

The young pair stayed on target, heading into the death overs needing 21 off 24 balls. The equation kept dipping as Kumar kept finding timely boundaries.

It had been a veteran's magic moment, but it would be the youngsters' day as the Hinds put together a record eighth-wicket stand that brought home a three-wicket win with an over to spare.

Kumar finished unbeaten on a career-best 47* (43 balls) and Bartlett 27* (37) to move up into third spot on the table, the Hinds still in with a shout this summer if other results go their way.
