Redmond century guides Volts to win

The State Otago Volts remain on top of the table after they chased down the State Central Stags total of 185 at the University Oval in Dunedin.

The victory was orchestrated by Aaron Redmond who blasted an unbeaten 100 off 56 as the Volts reached the target with an over to spare.

Opener Redmond slammed six fours and seven sixes also becoming the first player to register triple figures in the State Twenty20 competition this season.  The innings propelled Redmond into second place in the State Twenty20 MVP ranking.

It was the umpires who handed the five wicket win to Otago after imposing a six run penalty on Central at the end of the 19th over for deliberately slowing the game, taking their total from 183 to 189.

Brendon Diamanti was the pick of the Stags bowlers taking one for 21 off his four overs.

Earlier Stags all-rounder Jacob Oram announced his return to fitness with a 51 run onslaught off 27 balls with wicket-keeper batsman Marc Calkin making a quick-fire 37.

New BLACKCAP Twenty20 players, Ian Butler and Nathan McCullum were the best of the Volts attack with two for 29 and two for 24 respectively.

The result sees the defending Twenty20 champions languishing near the bottom of the table with the Otago Volts on top.
