Pressure builds on Sparks

Weather halted the round seven One-Day clash between the Otago Sparks and Northern Spirit, but not before the Sparks got to put 176 for seven on the Uni Oval scoreboard in a first innings that had already been reduced to 27 overs.

For Spirit the standout was 20-year-old Kate Anderson’s career best 4-32, including chipping out Millie Cowan caught and bowled on a career-best 48 to stop a potent second wicket stand with Katey Martin on 81.

Anderson followed up with Martin herself, who had raced to 34 before being caught by Emma Parker.

When rain returned for the afternoon, however, both mid-table sides would have to be satisfied with shared points, a blow particularly for the fourth-placed Sparks with time running out to catch the One-Day leaders.
