It was a stellar start for the Hinds in Hastings

Mikaela Greig stars with seven-for

One-Day Competition

Round One

Central Hinds 236-8 (Kate Broadmore 76, Anlo Van Deventer 52; Rachel Candy 3-34) beat Canterbury Magicians 230 all out (Frances Mackay 67, Tamsyn Newton 36, Jacinta Savage 35; Mikaela Greig 7-56) by six runs at Cornwall Park, Hastings

Scorecard

The Central Hinds' opening one-dayer of the season would be an especially memorable start for 20-year-old offspinner Mikaela Greig, who sabotaged the Canterbury Magicians' quest for 237 by claiming a stunning 7-56 from nine overs.

Greig, whose previous career best was 2-36, took four of her wickets between the 44th and 48th overs to undermine the Magicians' run chase, after having earlier snared the key scalps of WHITE FERN Amy Satterthwaite (19) and top-scorer Fances Mackay (67).

She wrapped it up with the wicket of Sullivan, who was caught after attempting a six that would have tied the contest off the last ball of the innings.

Kate Broadmore had earlier laid the foundation for the Hinds' 236-8 with 76 from 116 balls, while South African-born middle order strokemaker Anlo Van Deventer contributed a brisk 52 from 38 deliveries, the 22-year-old's first one-day half century.
