Hutt International Boys’ School batted first on Lincoln No. 3 against Otago Boys’ High School in round one of the Secondary School Boys’ First XI Cup.

Some good early bowling by Otago Boys’ had Hutt International in trouble, but Akshar Patel dug in deep to score an important 41 runs with some good support by the middle and lower order Hutt International batsmen.

Hutt International managed to save their innings after initial trouble, and reach a fair score of 187/8.

Otago Boys’ bowlers Declan Su’a (3-36) and Sam Angus (2-39) were impressive, and helped their side to a fine bowling innings.

Otago Boys’ looked to tick away at their target and after a few early wickets seemed to find some rhythm, until Hutt International opening batsman and strike bowler Ben Sears tore through the Otago Boys’ batting lineup with tremendous pace and accuracy.

Sears ended with a five-wicket haul and figures of 5-23. Tyler Simpson pitch in with a handy 2-21.

Taine Bayly batted strongly for Otago Boys’ and managed to reach 41, but a lack of partnerships paid its toll, resulting in an 84-run win for Hutt International.
