Last year's beaten finalist Wellington Blaze and defending champions the Otago Sparks were frustrated by the weather as they look to shake up a tight Hallyburton Johnstone Shield table.
Blaze captain Dee Doughty had no hesitation in sending in the Sparks when she won the toss, and Maneka Singh quickly had an early wicket.
But as has almost come to be expected, the veteran Kate Ebrahim just as quickly seized control for the Sparks, going on to an unbeaten 68* at the top before the rain arrived.
By then the Sparks were 155/5 in the 33rd, Bella James (45) having formed a 76-run stand for the second wicket with opener Ebrahim.
Fresh from a title win in the Gillette Venus Under 19 Nationals, Antonia Hamilton made her first two stumpings in just her second appearance for the Blaze, both off spinner Leigh Kasperek.
They would try again tomorrow, in the next round.
