A career best from young opener Olivia Lobb (51) laid the foundation for a solid ND batting effort in Hamilton, the keeper-batsman from Northland reaching her maiden List A half century as she laid down a 65-run opening stand with Katie Gurrey (37).

That was followed by 47 off 36 from hard-hitting first drop Kate Anderson, 32 from captain Felicity Leydon-Davis, and 72 off just 48 balls from veteran allrounder Eimear Richardson, having put on 80 with her captain.

All this after the Sparks had sent the Spirit in at Seddon Park.

A total of 289 for seven would prove a formidable chase for the visitors without their WHITE FERNS, even after a half century at the top from young captain Bella James.

They could take pride in the fight they showed at the death - Sophie Oldershaw and Molly Loe putting on an Otago record 53-stand for the last wicket.

But the writing was on the wall by then, and the Sparks would be dismissed well short in the last over, Richardson finishing with 4-37.
