The ninth round of the HBJ began with all teams still in contention for the Final (albeit some more remote than others), but the woes of a wet summer swiftly ended Northern Districts' faint hopes after an umpires' inspection at 11.30am.
A sodden ground after heavy rainfall in the upper North Island saw the penultimate round between the Auckland Hearts and Northern Districts abandoned with no toss made, the teams sharing the points.
Whilst that kept the Hearts alive for the time being, it wasn't enough to keep ND in the hunt as they became the first team to drop off the board.
With Holly Huddleston and Katie Perkins both set to play their last game for the Auckland Hearts on Sunday, all fingers will be crossed for a 10th-round start tomorrow at the same venue.
