The Northern Women U-21 team made light work of their neighbouring Central Women U-21 team and went on to win the shortened 47 over game by 82 runs.
After a delayed start Central won the toss and chose to bowl first. They were quickly rewarded with two quick wickets and had Northern at 14 for two.
But that was as good as it got for Central, as Katie Johnson and Rhiana Vincent put on 60 for the third wicket. Vincent was finally dismissed in the 23rd over for 24, but Johnson was batting brilliantly and went on to make 67 from 93 balls.
Even when they lost wickets, Northern were able to consistently make new partnerships and ended up at 204 for six after 47 overs. It was a cruel finish to the innings for Caitlin Dodunski who was stranded on 49 not out.
In reply Central were facing an uphill battle from the beginning, losing their first three batsmen cheaply.
However they were helped greatly by some inaccurate bowling from the Northern side, picking up 44 extras. Holly Mac Donald (17) and Maree Heal (13) settled things down for Central, but couldn’t push on to a big partnership.
Kate Baxter top scored with 27, but with her dismissal came the end of any chance that Central had. In the end they were all out for 122 in the 35th over.
Felicity Leydon-Davis was the pick of the bowlers for Northern, collecting figures of three for 21 from 7.1 overs.
