Canterbury take points

Canterbury and Northern districts have battled out a draw in day two of their two day match at the Under-18 tournament in Lincoln. Northern though did concede first innings points, a heavy blow which could have been oh so different.

After a dominant display with the bat yesterday Canterbury had to work hard again with the ball today and were rewarded with first innings points.

Anish Desai though was the real star of the second day. He did everything he possibly could to chase down Canterbury’s total of 365 but fell just short, yet had what will be one of his fondest cricketing memories as he made an incredible 209 not out. His innings included 34 boundaries.

Around him though he found little support. Tim Seifert looked to give Northern another chance when he came to the crease. He made 59, but with just a small number of runs required to acquire first innings points, he was run out.

The tail couldn’t get the job done either and despite Desai’s heroics, Northern were undone with only 26 runs to overtake Canterbury’s total.

Sam Chamberlain was the pick of the bowlers for Canterbury with three wickets.

It was for Canterbury to get some points, but the day really belonged to Desai.
