Captain Satterthwaite asked Leigh Kasperek's defending champions to bowl first, Magicians opener Kate Anderson relishing the assignment as she went on to prop up the innings with another T20 career best in her first season with the team.

Anderson went on to break Suzie Bates's record for most runs in a women's T20 Domestic summer but was gutted to narrowly miss out on a maiden T20 century yet again.

The Canterbury innings had sunk in the middle, like dough that wasn't rising, but they still set the Blaze a fair chase of 145 runs at 7.25.

Top bowler of the season Gabby Sullivan (3-29) got the Magicians an early breakthrough and as the Magicians attack turned up the heat on the Blaze through the middle of the chase, Wellington began to make critical unforced errors.

Eighteen were needed from the last six balls of the women's season as Satterthwaite took the ball for one last fling in the T20 arena. She conceded just three from the first three balls, then had Xara Jetly stumped.

Satterthwaite's final act in the game was to make a runout off the last ball, before the home team began to celebrate a special win for a special player.
