South Africa seals series

In short
South Africa have claimed the ANZ ODI series 3-2, off the back of an impressive display with the ball and in the field in the fifth ODI at Eden Park.

21-year-old pace bowler Kagiso Rabada claimed 3-25, including the big wicket of Martin Guptiill, as the visitors bowled the BLACKCAPS out for 149 in 41.1 overs.

Kane Williamson's men fought hard in the field and gave the boisterous crowd some hope with early wickets, but the total was eventually reached in the 33rd over with six wickets in hand.

Scorecard

Scene set
Eden Park has been the home of thrillers in recent times and with the series on the line, Saturday promised to be another cracker. Sunshine, two of the top three sides in the world, trophy on the line - let’s play cricket.

Double-sided coin?
No excuses here - South Africa were deserved winners of the series, but Kane Williamson certainly needs to work on his coin tossing skills.
AB de Villiers called correctly in all five of the ODI matches, giving the BLACKCAPS skipper an underwhelming 0% success rate. Even more outrageous is the fact that the BLACKCAPS haven't won a toss at Eden Park for 10 years.

Flashing bails
South Africa came out firing on all cylinders. On the back of their loss in Hamilton, there was a chip on the shoulder of the visitors and unfortunately that would translate into a flurry of early wickets. A Rabada yorker went though fourth ODI hero Martin Guptill, Williamson was run-out after his bat got stuck in the ground trying to slide in and both Dean Brownlie and Ross Taylor were trapped lbw. The BLACKCAPS front four were back in the shed with just 51 on the board.

Deadly Dummy
With 45 between them for the seventh wicket, Mitchell Santner and Colin de Grandhomme had soaked up a bit of pressure and built the BLACKCAPS biggest partnership of the innings. With just 132 on the board, the home side needed them to push on from that beginning, but a piece of JP Duminy brilliance would quash those intentions. Diving full length at backward point, Duminy managed to stop what looked like a certain single for Mitchell Santner. He then threw from his knees and hit the one-and-a-half stumps he had to aim at, stranding Santner and ending what had been the BLACKCAPS most promising partnership.

Big job for the Big House
Coming in at 87-6 is a tough task and meant de Grandhomme had to curb his swash-buckling aggressive tendencies. The 32-year-old has made a number of important contributions down the order in recent times and his 32 on this occasion was not only the top score for the innings, but helped make sure the BLACKCAPS surpassed three figures as he was the last man out.

Relentless
South Africa were in the driver's seat and wouldn’t relinquish their position. Accurate with the ball and spectacular in the field, South Africa put in a clinical performance in the first 50 overs. The BLACKCAPS couldn’t stem the flow of wickets and after 41.1 overs were dismissed for 149.

Jeetan again
Just as he did in Hamilton’s game four, Jeetan Patel took the first over of the innings. His accurate right arm off breaks again had Quinton de Kock in trouble and it wasn’t long before the ultra aggressive left hander was charging down the track, only to sky one in the air and give the BLACKCAPS an important early wicket.

Squeeze
With the ball swinging nicely after the tea break, the BLACKCAP quicks did a good job of drying South Africa up. This eventually brought about the wicket of Hashim Amla (8 off 28), who’s lean ODI series continued as he was caught at cover trying to drive Colin de Grandhomme on the up.

AB again
Proved a thorn in the BLACKCAPS side once again. Came in with the chase stalled at 48 for three in the 16th over and powered the Proteas closer to safety. A whirlwind 23 off 21 balls featured two glorious sixes and would have helped ease the visitors' nerves in the dug out. The ball that got him was a rip snorter from Jimmy Neesham. A rearing bouncer that grazed the gloves.

Finish the job
At 88-4 and with the AB de Villiers back in the shed, the BLACKCAPS had a sniff. That sniff was snuffed out by the patience of Faf du Plessis (51*) and the aggression David Miller (45*), who powered the Proteas to their target in the 33rd over with six wickets in hand.
