Auckland women U21 v Northern Women U21

After a rainy start in the fourth round of the National Women's Under 21 tournament, the Auckland side has beaten Northern Districts with ease - the defending champs chasing down Northern’s total in just the 23rd over.

Northern won the toss and decided to get some runs on the board. It started off ok with opener Heidi Arndt playing sensibly for her 26, but she couldn’t find anyone to forge a partnership with.

Rain soon forced the players off the pitch, but when they returned in gloomy conditions, Auckland made the most of it and devastated the Northern top order with an impressive bowling display.

It looked like the innings was coming to an end, but some resilience from the tail ensured that Northern would be in with a chance when it came to their turn to bowl.

In the end Northern bravely clawed their way to 107 for nine.

Chasing such a low total Auckland knew that they would need only one batsman to score well to take the game away from Northern. Many players made starts, but Maddie Green once again helped the Auckland team to another win and played some beautiful drives on her way to 37.

In the end Northern’s total proved to be not enough and Auckland were too good, chasing down the total with six wickets in hand.
