Aces end Volts unbeaten run

The State Auckland Aces have ended the State Otago Volts unbeaten run in the State Twenty20 at University Oval in Dunedin.

Batting first the Aces made a modest 142 but managed to restrict the home side to 139 to win by three runs.

Colin de Grandhomme made an aggressive 24 off 17 at the top of the order before the Volts bowlers got on top.

It wasn’t until the end of the inning when Rob Nicol (26*) and Ronnie Hire (28) combined to put on 52 and give the scorecard some respectability.

Warren McSkimming was again miserly for the Volts taking two for 14 with English import Dimitri Mascarenhas taking two for 26.

In reply the Otago batsman couldn’t build momentum with Greg Todd the only player making an impression with 39 off 35.

Ronnie Hira backed up his batting with to take three for 21 with the ball.  Chris Martin took two for 33.

Auckland are now level with Otago on 12 points after four rounds.
